The Four Main Ingredients for Blended Learning

On September 23rd, I had the pleasure of facilitating The Recipe for Increasing Learner Engagement Webinar for the Association for Talent Development (ATD) Maryland Chapter. The webinar, which I’ve conducted the session a number of times, helps to demystify blended learning while giving it an additional jolt of power.

The Problem: How do I increase learner engagement before and after my training programs?

Webinar attendees were looking for ways to create more engaging training programs. The two consistent problems from attendees in each webinar are they are having difficulty getting supervisors involved in the learning process and getting participants excited about attending learning events.

The Solution: Four Main Ingredients and Five Flavor Enhancements

During the webinar, I share the four main ingredients and five flavor enhancements that will help you create a more engaging learning experience. I give webinar attendees “the recipe for increasing learner engagement” which includes four main ingredients and five flavor enhancements during the webinar.

Two specific learning nuggets that I share are below.

To increase engagement before participants engage in learning, give them a short pre-work assignment that should take no longer than 10 minutes. It should be related to the topic and give them just a taste of the main learning event.

To increase engagement after they engage in learning, send their manager an email to share key concepts and learning nuggets that their employees learned during the session. Make yourself available to help them find ways to link the learning to regular work activities.

The Result: A Four-Step Process to Create Blended learning

Learners conclude the webinar with a real-world example of how to achieve “the right blend” for their learning programs which will engage participants before, during, and after their training. This is how we make learning extraordinary at Concerning Learning!

If you want to learn more about the Concerning Learning Blended Learning Approach, here’s a link to a podcast where I was interviewed by Amanda Smith for ATD the right blend where we discuss the right blend.
