Assessing Organizational Culture Needs to Improve Performance

The Problem

The organization was experiencing some challenges with transitioning to embedding diversity, equity, and inclusion into its work processes and strategy for achieving mission-critical goals. Teams needed help appreciating differing views on the best approach to partner with underrepresented communities. These difficulties negatively impacted morale and productivity as the teams could not move beyond their different perspectives.

Although human resources leaders acknowledged that this was a symptom of their more outstanding organizational culture issues, there was an immediate need to help the teams address and discuss their differences to achieve desired work goals.

Our Solution

The recommended solution was facilitating a series of Impactful DEIB Conversations. Before facilitating Impactful DEIB Conversations, collected data by meeting with the impacted teams, individually or with their intact work teams, to assess the current level of psychological safety using the Fearless Culture Psychological Safety Ladder activity and capture their specific DEIB views using the Fearless Culture Uncover the Stinky Fish activity. Facilitated a productive and psychologically safe joint meeting with the impacted teams to share and discuss the results from the data collected.

Our Results

Conducted an after-action review (AAR) meeting with senior human resources leaders to share surprising and critical insights. During the AAR meeting, recommendations for subsequent action and areas for improving team cohesion were provided. As a result, the client has retained Concerning Learning for additional and ongoing consulting, facilitation, and coaching services to help their senior leadership team (SLT) create an impactful and sustainable strategy to elevate their organizational culture and move along the journey to belonging.
